I've been working on the switch loom, the white plug is done, orange is done, black is done, but I've hit a snag on the yellow and violet plug, I don't have enough available connections which presents a problem because I don't have the molex crimps or a molex removal tool.

I can see now why I had 12v meter alarm when I ran the EG loom with the RD program card. There are many differences in the loom, far more than I had imagined. The looms are very different and a certainly not interchangeable without considerable work.

I can't progress it until I resolve the issue with the crimps or find some way or reworking an old plug.

After a wasted week messing about crimps and plugs, in total desperation last night after the second lot of crimps proved unsuccessful, I had no choice but literally cut up a blue plug in order to remove the crimp and wire in tact. I had tried to remove the crimp from the plug but it was too damaged to be used again. It's something I need to resolve for the future, but for now I want to get RD finished.

I managed to get around 12 wires and crimps in tact from the blue which allowed me to move on.

Getting closer now, the yellow meter drive plug is done and the violet and black plugs just need some finally checking.

It so frustrating that the same connections are wired differently between machines. There is no standard implementation within the plugs.

Another Sunday night and back to the loom.

I picked up a few more errors that I had made on the loom and I made doubly sure no 50v found it's way to ground via the switches. [L/O means Lock Out, (magnets) not low as in switch level low, that was very close, fortunately I didn't believe my eyes when I read the diagram.  (50v to 0v through switch = boom + burning smell)]

Anyway hit or bust, first power on. 10p coin switch alarm. (test with meter 10p line is shorted to ground) ummm, I had the spades on the wrong connectors on the 10p coin switch. (should be normally open, not normally closed) oops!

OK, she runs! No burning, magnets come on and she goes into attract with all looms connected.

I play in test and all is well. So far so good.

Close door switch and coin... VTP meter alarm!

Now I was expecting this. I had 12v meter alarm originally and I wondered whether I had shorted the transistor array which buffer the meters. Anyway, swap meters for another set and same alarm.

Could be the MPU, but it could also be the wiring? So I checked the violet plug.

Meter sense is missing. (I got confused when I did the wiring, black and white wire to black and light grey wire, missed the connection, no meter sense, so no meter pulse). Connect meter sense on Violet to Black 11 and power on.

OK, now it boots and crucially it will coin with a 10p (I was thinking of Steve when I put a token in), that was OK too.

The Mars mech is OK and that coins and gives change.

So, now it's time for a game!

Initial observations;

The reel bands are not perfect and will need to be re-done.

The wiring is scary and will need a few days to tidy up (I cannot show you a pic of the back of the machine at this stage, it looks like a BT wiring cabinet)

Continue to the next part of the project.  page 10
